So you think you're computer-illiterate? Check out the following excerpts from a Wall Street Journal article by Jim Carlton -- 1. Compaq is considering changing the command "Press Any Key" to "Press Return Key" because of the flood of calls asking where the "Any" key is. 2. AST technical support had a caller complaining that her mouse was hard to control with the dust cover on. The cover turned out to be the plastic bag the mouse was packaged in. 3. Another Compaq technician received a call from a man complaining that the system wouldn't read word processing files from his old diskettes. After trouble- shooting for magnets and heat failed to diagnose the problem, it was found that the customer labeled the diskettes then rolled them into the typewriter to type the labels. 4. Another AST customer was asked to send a copy of her defective diskettes. A few days later a letter arrived from the customer along with Xeroxed copies of the floppies. 5. A Dell technician advised his customer to put his troubled floppy back in the drive and close the door. The customer asked the tech to hold on, and was heard putting the phone down, getting up and crossing the room to close the door to his room. 6. Another Dell customer called to say he couldn't get his computer to fax anything. After 40 minutes of trouble-shooting, the technician discovered the man was trying to fax a piece of paper by holding it in front of the monitor screen and hitting the "send" key. 7. Another Dell customer needed help setting up a new program, so a Dell tech suggested he go to the local Egghead. "Yeah, I got me a couple of friends, "the customer replied. When told Egghead was a software store, the man said, "Oh, I thought you meant for me to find a couple of geeks." 8. Yet another Dell customer called to complain that his keyboard no longer worked. He had cleaned it by filling up his tub with soap and water and soaking the keyboard for a day, then removing all the keys and washing them individually. 9. A Dell technician received a call from a customer who was enraged because his computer had told him he was "bad and an invalid". The tech explained that the computer's "bad command" and "invalid" responses shouldn't be taken personally. 10. An exasperated caller to Dell Computer Tech Support couldn't get her new Dell Computer to turn on. After ensuring the computer was plugged in, the technician asked her what happened when she pushed the power button. Her response, "I pushed and pushed on this foot pedal and nothing happens."The "foot pedal" turned out to be the computer's mouse. 11. Another customer called Compaq tech support to say her brand-new computer wouldn't work. She said she unpacked the unit, plugged it in, and sat there for 20 minutes waiting for something to happen. When asked what happened when she pressed the power switch, she asked "What power switch?" 12. True story from a Novell NetWire SysOp: Caller: "Hello, is this Tech Support?" Tech: "Yes, it is. How may I help you?" Caller: "The cup holder on my PC is broken and I am within my warranty period. How do I go about getting that fixed?" Tech: "I'm sorry, but did you say a cup holder?" Caller: "Yes, it's attached to the front of my computer." Tech: "Please excuse me if I seem a bit stumped, It's because I am. Did you receive this as part of a promotional, at a trade show? How did you get this cup holder? Does it have any trademark on it?" Caller: "It came with my computer, I don't know anything about a promotional. It just has '4X' on it." At this point the Tech Rep had to mute the caller, because he couldn't stand it. The caller had been using the load drawer of the CD-ROM drive as a cup holder, and snapped it off.

The last one left me laughing like a lunatic. At first I was thinking, computer got cup handle one meh? So it’s the cd rom thingy. Kerstin’s cup holder is dusty! =.= Nearly woke up late today! I set 10 alarm and I off-ed all of them. And woke up on my own at 8. =0) Then went to work on the mrt. AND I AM FREAKING FREAKING tired although I slept late last night. And yes, it’s not enough because I had a freaking nightmare last night! Anyway, once I reached the company, I on-ed my comp and tadah, ALL FILES GONE! That means the stack of THOUSANDS of entries GONE! Kinda freaked out a little because I spent like hours keying in the data! =0( Then this guy just plugged in a cable and retrieved all my files! PRO LEH! And I wonder where that cable link to. SO COOL! =0) Teehee! Then tried to finish up my work as fast as possible. My hands cramp also continue typing okay! Because I just feel that it’s a waste of transport fare to go again tomorrow. But still had to go down tomorrow. =0( Skipped lunch to finish also cannot finish. =0( Oh yes! I wonder what’s with HP ink. Okay, buy HP printer must use HP ink. But the people really buy in BULK! I saw one invoice, 1k! Spent nearly 1k on ink and paper! So scary la! And each invoice is $20 and above and normally, two invoice is sufficient to sponsor me the Nintendo DS lite! And I manged to typed in like nearly up to 4k of entries today! My hands really cramped because of the constant keying in and the straining of hands to typed using the num pad! The keyboard is designed for only right handers right? Oh yes, huili was doing the keying in of particulars and guess what we saw HENDI’s! Like really that maths hendi la! I know very mei you dao de, but we saw where he live! Very very far from NYP! Lols! I miss HENDI because he is a GOOD MATHS LECTURER/TUTOR! My first A in maths in poly but I am gonna waste it again! =0( LALA. Then tried hard to finish with my work and even skipped lunch! I SKIPPED LUNCH and had my VERY FIRST meal only at 7pm. TIRED! Freaking tired and I am gonna go work tomorrow and head back to kallang on the Saturday just to hand in the time sheet to Motorola/alcom. =.= TIRED! And yes, I need quality sleep!
Anyway, I realized how in my own world I have been lately! =0( SORRY SORRY SAM! Teehee! I am really in my own world that I actually misunderstood her and became totally affected by internal conflict! SORRY GIRL, you know, I know okie. =0) Argh! So I have been emo-ing and being in the sucky cycle of depression all of nothing! LOLs! And both of us are laughing about it now! Paiseh! Lols. Half feeling embarrassed with myself for thinking too much and not clearing things and half feeling funny and half feeling angry for wasting THREE DAYS OF HAPPINESS! Okay, that is three halfs. LOLS. Okay, I realized my stupid mistake. Really stupid mistake! LOLS. Okay, learnt it already. Never jump to conclusion and waste HOURS OF HAPPINESS! Pheww~ It’s like the dark clouds overhead already blown away la! Because I finally spoke up! =x Still, I can’t help but feel guilty! =0( Sorry SAM! =x Teehee! Lucky she told me if not I will be wasting my happiness again! Lols! Okay, I am really dumb! Like DUMB!
Yay! I am a happy girl once again! =0) The feeling of feeling down really sucks! And the feeling of being unable to believe people totally not right! =0) Teehee. Serious case of misunderstanding and communication breakdown! I remember what puru said. Communicate, or there will be misunderstanding. And communicate effectively! =0)
Okay! =0) Happy girl! Happy girl! Gotta look for jobs again! AGAIN! I am in love with data entry, just minus the rushing. And I am thinking of the telemarketing! Because, I can talk and not see the person. Hmmm. Should I? And the pay’s not bad too. But for Brother? It’s the printer/scanner/etc brand. Should I? Should I? Wondering~~ Pay’s not bad leh! Gosh, I have been so $ minded already la! But no worries, I still am humane. I always think that $ minded people are not humans. =x Lols. I am still thinking. WSS or Work? Both starts with W but both provide different thing. One is knowledge. One is knowledge(maybe), experience and money. Argh~~ If not I will need to get a new job. New job means more money. Just thinking about the stuffs I need to get is enough to kill me! LALA.
Working is tiring but it keeps my mind off a lot of things. Like, when I am home, I dread a lot for my SEM EXAM RESULT! Really, totally! And a lot of other nitsy bitsy stuff. And indeed time, doesn’t heal. =)
After work, and on the way to the MRT, I will think about school days. Both in poly and secondary school. I am sure I am gonna miss studying days! I hate working to a certain extent. And I am really gonna work my way to my goal/childhood ambition or else I am gonna be stuck in boring jobs that are like routine-ed! I don’t like!
Oh yes, whenever I decide to settle down to read my Harry potter, I will just find that it’s near 11 and I need to sleep! Pathetic! I haven’t finish reading and I know I am slow! I will need to finish at least half the book today or else I bu gan yuan! =0)
